Gabut District

Located between the Old Port and the marina basin, the Gabut district is one of La Rochelle’s most recognizable areas thanks to its brightly colored wooden houses. Once a fishermen’s and warehouse district, it was completely redeveloped in the late 20th century into a lively area combining housing, shops and cultural spaces. Its Nordic-inspired architecture stands in contrast to the traditional stone buildings of the historic center. Today, it is a vibrant place filled with restaurants, street art and events, offering a unique atmosphere blending maritime heritage with modern urban life.
