Aquarium de La Rochelle

Just a stone’s throw from the Old Port, the La Rochelle Aquarium is one of the largest in Europe. Covering 8,445 m², it is home to over 12,000 marine animals from 600 different species, offering visitors a true underwater journey — from the Atlantic coasts to tropical reefs. Created in 1970 by René Coutant, it has become a center for innovation and ocean awareness, dedicated to the preservation of marine life. With its spectacular tanks containing 3 million liters of seawater and its educational exhibits, the aquarium combines wonder with environmental consciousness. Each year, more than 800,000 visitors dive into this unique experience, making the aquarium a must-see attraction in La Rochelle.
