Estàtua de Sant Jordi

The Statue of Saint George, located in front of the Diputació de Barcelona building on Avinguda Diagonal, is a bronze sculpture created in 1977 by sculptor Joan Rebull Torroja, commissioned by the then president of the Diputació, Joan Antoni Samaranch. It was originally exhibited in the Gothic gallery of the Palau de la Generalitat, before being moved to its current location at the top of Rambla Catalunya. This Noucentista-style sculpture is defined by its balance, symmetry, and classical naturalism. Some have noted a resemblance to Pablo Picasso, although the models were the artist’s son, Xavier, and his assistant, Amadeu Adell.
