The Casa Comalat, located at 442 Avinguda Diagonal, is a masterpiece of Catalan Modernism designed by Salvador Valeri i Pupurull between 1906 and 1911 for the industrialist Joan Comalat Aleñà. Particularly distinctive, it features two contrasting façades: the one on Diagonal, made of smooth stone, stands out for its rich sculptural decoration, balconies adorned with garlands, a monumental central bay, and an undulating top crowned by a barretina-shaped dome covered in green ceramic tiles. Inside, the rococo-style vestibule, curved staircase, mosaics, stucco, and woodwork exemplify Barcelona’s modernist elegance. The rear façade, on Carrer de Còrsega, is more colorful and expressive, with asymmetrical galleries and ceramic ornamentation inspired by Gaudí’s style. Listed as a Local Cultural Heritage Site (BCIL), the Casa Comalat is considered one of the most exuberant and refined examples of late Modernisme in Barcelona.
