The Cat of Fernando Botero

An iconic sculpture of the Raval and a symbol of Barcelona, this large, round bronze cat with a childlike face and long tail was acquired by the City Council in 1987. After years of moving —from Ciutadella Park to the Olympic Stadium and later the Drassanes— it finally found its permanent home on the Rambla del Raval in 2003. Now a popular meeting point, playground, and photo spot, it is fully integrated into the life of the neighborhood. Its oversized proportions reflect the unmistakable style of Fernando Botero, also the author of the Horse sculpture at Barcelona’s El Prat Airport.
