Photovoltaic solar panels cover the former party wall of the Contemporary Intermediate Archive of Barcelona, in the Llacuna del Poblenou neighbourhood. At the base of the new Jardín del Sol lies a 560 m² green wall of climbing plants, enriched with new habitats. It contains 12 different species that bloom throughout the year. At the bottom, an 8,000-litre tank collects rainwater from the rooftop, which is used for irrigation. Another part of the wall has been fitted with 150 m² of solar panels, producing electricity for the building’s lighting and powering the drip irrigation system pump. At street level, an information panel highlights the environmental benefits of the installation and provides real-time data on the performance of the solar power plant. The creation of the Jardín del Sol was led by the Municipal Institute of Urban Landscape and Quality of Life, with the collaboration of Parks and Gardens, the Local Energy Agency, the Water Cycle Service, the Municipal Contemporary Archive, and the Sant Martí District.
