The Miquel Martí i Pol Gardens, located around the Can Framis Museum (a former textile factory in Poblenou), were designed by Jordi Badia, Jordi Framis, and the team of BAAS Arquitectura alongside the rehabilitation of the old factory buildings. Their landscaping project, inspired by a small Mediterranean woodland, was a finalist for the Rosa Barba European Landscape Prize and the European Prize for Urban Public Space in 2010. The vegetation recalls a riverside grove, made up of white poplars, black poplars, and holm oaks, arranged randomly to create an impression of natural disorder. The ensemble is enriched with a carpet of ivy and many floral species such as Christmas daffodils, sea iris, arum italicum, agapanthus, and sternbergia lutea, bringing varied colours throughout the seasons. The gardens create an intimate, green atmosphere that conceals the museum, inviting visitors to stroll through access ramps and undulating flowerbeds. The Can Framis Museum consists of two restored factory halls and a third newly built nave. In its inner courtyard, accessible during opening hours, stands the sculpture Dell’Arte by Jaume Plensa, inspired by Dante, surrounded by plantings that turn reddish in autumn. In short, these gardens are an urban oasis of biodiversity and art, where nature, architecture, and sculpture come together to offer a unique cultural and sensory experience.
