Monument to Joan Maragall

The monument to Joan Maragall (1860-1911), inaugurated in 1913 in the Parc de la Ciutadella, is the result of collaboration between architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner and sculptor Eusebi Arnau. The marble bust, with its refined realism, rests on a tall Ionic stone column decorated with modernist motifs inspired by nature. The base of the column features reliefs depicting a sardana, the traditional Catalan dance, in homage to the poet’s famous verse: “La sardana és la dansa més bella…”. The ensemble blends classical sobriety with modernist decorative richness, reflecting both Maragall’s work and spirit.
