L’Estel Ferit (The Wounded Star)

L’Estel Ferit (The Wounded Star), better known as The Cubes, is an iconic sculpture in Barceloneta created in 1992 by German artist Rebecca Horn. Standing 10 meters high, it consists of four glass-paneled steel cubes stacked in a disorderly way, giving the impression of fragile balance. This contemporary artwork pays tribute to the neighborhood’s past: it recalls the old chiringuitos that disappeared during Barcelona’s pre-Olympic renovation, as well as the small traditional apartments of Barceloneta. Facing the sea, the sculpture has become a popular symbol, representing both the memory of the neighborhood and the artistic drive of Olympic Barcelona.
