The Edifici de Correus, located at the beginning of Via Laietana, was built between 1926 and 1929 based on a design by Josep Goday Casals and Jaume Torres Grau. This monumental building, in the Beaux-Arts and monumental classicist styles, exemplifies the institutional architecture of early 20th-century Barcelona. Its main façade, facing the current Plaça d’Antonio López, stands out for its grand staircase, four tall Ionic columns, and two asymmetrical towers, the taller of which dominates the cityscape. The pediment is crowned with a sculpted coat of arms of Spain by Pere Jou. The four female figures on the façade symbolize the postal service — navigation, communication, transmission, and renewal — and are attributed to sculptor Manuel Fuxà. Inside, the impressive vaulted hall, covered by a glass dome, features frescoes by Francesc Canyelles, Josep Obiols, Francesc Labarta, and Francesc d’Assís Galí, representative of the Noucentista style. Classified as a Local Cultural Heritage Site (BCIL), the building remains one of the most iconic institutional landmarks on Via Laietana.
