CosmoCaixa opened in 2004 after an ambitious renovation that integrated the original 1904 modernist building into a bright and modern structure. Designed by architects Esteve and Robert Terradas, the museum successfully blended heritage and innovation, featuring iconic spaces such as the Flooded Forest, the Vertical Garden, and its spectacular glass cube. Today, with more than 30,000 m² dedicated to scientific outreach, CosmoCaixa is one of the most modern science museums in Europe, awarded the European Museum of the Year Prize in 2006. True to its environmental commitment, the museum has been leading the Green Building, Educating Building project for several years, with concrete actions in energy efficiency, water management, biodiversity, and reducing ecological impact. The Science Plaza illustrates these efforts with smart solar panels, an insect hotel, and a hydroponic garden — initiatives that make the museum a place of learning and sustainability, while offering breathtaking views of Barcelona.
