L’Empordà. Oda nova a Barcelona is a sculptural ensemble created by Ernest Maragall Noble in 1961 as a tribute to the poet Joan Maragall, marking the centenary of his birth. The work is located in the Jardinets de Gràcia, the section of Passeig de Gràcia between Avinguda Diagonal and the former village of Gràcia. The monument consists of two reclining female figures, one nude and the other draped in a light fabric, both carved in white marble. Its style reflects the Noucentisme tradition, emphasizing harmony, softness, and balance. The piece has had a turbulent history: in the 1960s it was moved to Parc Cervantes for moral reasons (some critics perceived the figures as too sensual or with a lesbian undertone). In 1985 it was returned to its original site, and in 2014 it was relocated to another area within the Jardinets de Gràcia.
