Rompsay Canal

Located on the outskirts of La Rochelle, the Rompsay Canal is a peaceful green corridor ideal for walking and cycling along the water. It forms part of the canal linking the Marais Poitevin to the Atlantic Ocean over nearly 24 kilometers. Built in the 19th century under Napoleon I to transport goods, it never achieved the expected success and was gradually abandoned. Today restored, it has become a popular route for walkers and cyclists, especially along the Vélodyssée. Combining preserved nature, historic structures and a calm atmosphere, it offers a perfect escape just minutes from the city.
