Cloître des Dames Blanches

Founded in 1629 by the Récollets, this cloister first housed a Franciscan convent before welcoming, in 1715, the Dames Blanches — a religious community devoted to helping women in need. After the Revolution, the site underwent several transformations before being acquired by the City of La Rochelle in 1988. Since 1993, it has hosted the Urban Community, while each summer it becomes a venue for art exhibitions set within a peaceful, historic atmosphere. A true cultural haven in the heart of the city, the Cloister of the Dames Blanches beautifully blends heritage, art, and serenity.
