The Torre Glòries building, designed by Jean Nouvel in collaboration with b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos, has emerged as an iconic symbol of Barcelona’s skyline. Its architectural design features a dual-layer façade: the first layer is made of aluminium plates lacquered in 26 warm tones (earth, red, blue, green, gray) that fade gradually upward; the second layer consists of transparent and translucent glass slats (over 52,000), evoking shimmering water and filtered light—a vibrant mirage from afar. Standing at 144 meters tall, the tower resembles a geyser rising from the ground toward the sky, topped with a glass dome. The colors transition with height: warm tones at the base symbolize the incandescent earth, while cooler blue tones ascend and visually dissolve into the ether. Architecturally, it consists of two non-concentric oval cylinders, with the outer one enveloped by a glass-and-steel dome giving it its distinctive silhouette. Inside, there are approximately 30 open-plan floors with no internal pillars. Inaugurated on 16 September 2005, Torre Glòries (formerly Torre Agbar) exemplifies 21st-century bioclimatic architecture—innovative and environmentally conscious. It incorporates efficient systems: natural ventilation, insulating materials, absence of harmful substances, energy optimization, water reuse, bicycle parking, and more.
