The Stone Statues

Commissioned between 1888 and 1910 from several renowned Catalan sculptors, the 16 stone statues of Plaça de Catalunya were originally intended to adorn a temple that was never built. They were eventually redistributed: eight placed on the north terrace of the square, and the rest scattered across the city. The eight preserved in Plaça de Catalunya depict various themes, such as Maternity, Youth, the Blacksmith, and Navigation, and bear the signature of masters like Navarro, Llimona, Clarà, Gargallo, and Arnau.
