Sant Felip Neri Church

Tucked away in the square of the same name in the Gothic Quarter, the Baroque church of Sant Felip Neri was built in the 18th century as an annex to the convent of the Oratorians (felipons). With a single nave and side chapels, it features neoclassical altars and paintings by modernist artist Joan Llimona. Its simple façade still bears the scars of the January 1938 bombing, during the Spanish Civil War, which claimed the lives of 42 people, many of them children sheltering underground. These marks remain as a reminder of the tragedy. Today, the contrast is striking: the calm of the shaded square, with its fountain and former guild houses, has replaced the painful past.
