The Porta del Passeig Picasso, a monumental entrance to the Parc de la Ciutadella, was adorned in 1884 with two allegorical sculptures representing Maritime Life and Agriculture. They were designed by sculptor Venanci Vallmitjana, with the collaboration of Josep Carcassó, and belong to the rich decorative tradition of the 19th century. Maritime Life is symbolized by a woman leaning on an anchor and chains, accompanied by a putto throwing a fishing net. Agriculture is depicted as a female figure holding a sheaf of wheat and a bunch of grapes, next to a putto carrying similar fruits. The ensemble, listed as a Local Cultural Heritage Site (BCIL), forms part of the historical setting of the park and the Passeig Picasso, where another wrought-iron gate is crowned with lanterns topped by a warrior’s helmet.
