Conceived in 1926 by Carles Buïgas, with Ramon Calzada and Josep M. Roda as collaborators, the project aimed to link the 1929 International Exhibition with its maritime section. Due to lack of funding in time, it was only completed in 1931, under Roda’s direction. Closed during the Spanish Civil War, its cables were dismantled and the towers used for military purposes. In 1963, after being taken over by Teleféricos de Barcelona S.A., the service resumed and continued without interruption until 1995. Two years later, after restoration, it regained its 1931 appearance. The 1.3 km route connects Barceloneta to Miramar in about ten minutes, supported by two impressive metal towers: the Torre de San Sebastián (78 m), housing the station and a restaurant, and the Torre Jaume I (107 m), featuring viewing platforms. Both structures are now listed as part of Barcelona’s historical and artistic heritage.
