Monument to General Juan Prim

The monument to General Juan Prim (1814-1870), located in Ciutadella Park, was designed by Josep Fontserè and sculpted by Lluís Puiggener. Made of bronze on a stone pedestal and inaugurated in 1887, it pays tribute to the Catalan military leader, hero of the war in Morocco. Part of the bronze came from old cannons from Montjuïc Castle. Destroyed in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War to recover the metal, the monument was rebuilt after the war by Frederic Marès. Although not an exact copy, the new version preserves the spirit of the original.
