Casa de la Ciutat

Located on the Plaça de Sant Jaume, opposite the Palau de la Generalitat, the Casa de la Ciutat (City Hall) combines a neoclassical façade with remarkable Gothic spaces such as the Saló de Cent (14th century), seat of the Consell de Cent, Barcelona’s first municipal government until 1714. Among its highlights are the Saló de Cròniques, decorated by Josep Maria Sert (1928), the Gothic hall where Einstein was received in 1923, as well as works by artists such as Miró, Gargallo, Llimona, and Subirachs. The main façade (1847) features statues of King Jaume I and Joan Fiveller, while the vestibule and Gothic staircase form a true art gallery.
