Casa Codina - Carrer Flassaders, 13

Casa Codina, built in 1780 and carefully restored in recent times, is one of the hidden gems of Carrer Flassaders. The restoration brought back to light magnificent sgraffito decoration, a technique of scratching away a top layer of plaster to reveal contrasting patterns beneath, of exceptional quality. The scenes depicted on the facade form a vivid tableau of 18th-century life: a lady in formal dress, a chocolate-maker at work, a woman surrounded by a child and cacao plants, and a flower vase before a rural landscape. These figures are framed in Baroque-style ornaments, with busts, medallions and vases on the upper floors. A rare and living testament to Catalan decorative art from the Age of Enlightenment.
