Baluard de Migdia

The Baluard de Migdia, located behind the Estació de França, is a remnant of Barcelona’s maritime fortifications, built from 1527 by the Consell de Cent. It was part of the seaside wall and played an important role during the Siege of Barcelona in 1714. The fortifications were demolished in the 19th century and rediscovered in 2008 during construction works. After much heritage debate, part of the bastion was saved and restored. The remains preserved today include the bastion, a section of the wall, an 18th-century counterscarp, and a fragment of the historic Rec Comtal canal.
